General Information:
I am a 4th grade teacher here at Rosemont Elementary School. I have the best students in the whole school! I hope you find this information helpful. Please let me know if you would like some information added to this page to help you with school.
LANGUAGE ARTS INFORMATION:
Spelling: Spelling words are introduced almost every Monday, with a pretest. Various activities take place during the week so that students may practice these words. Some students may need to take extra time at home to practice with the spelling words. Please concentrate on learning the pattern or patterns of the words, and not just the spelling of each separate word since students will be expected to spell similar words during the year. The graded spelling test usually takes place on Friday. The test consists of the words for the week, as well as two or three dictated sentences.
Reading: Vocabulary words for each story are normally introduced on Mondays. We share the story of the week on Tuesday and Wednesday. Each Wednesday night, students should reread the story and practice with the vocabulary words. A test on Thursday will check on knowledge of the vocabulary words and comprehension of the story.
Reading Logs: Each student is given a weekly reading log. Students are expected to read 20 minutes or more each night, Monday through Thursday. Reading on Friday through Sunday is optional, but is recommended, since the way to become a better reader is to read.
Language Arts instruction will also include various writing and word study activities.
MATH INFORMATION:
This year's math program will continue with the concepts learned in 3rd grade. We will also add some new topics. Students are encouraged to use EM Games at home, as well as other websites, to practice with areas where they need to spend more time.
